The Mississippi River is what most drew me to New Orleans. I think of it as the heartbeat of the city. You can’t hear it without leaning in a little.
-
We were at the mississippi river on mardi gras day, during all of memorials and scattering of ashes. I brought a pack of unfiltered camels to remember someone who passed that year and used to chain smoke them. It was too many unfiltered camels.

My friend Kensey, an awesome visual artist etc and I sat on the steps by the MoonWalk…As he mesmerized the folks with his impromptu magic show a tug boat passed and washed away the HEAT!!

Mississippi River AND Claiborne
I remember running across to find you, to scoop you up in my arms so that we could find peace by the water. I remember watch the colors of your face through the window tints on the passing cars. I remember thinking how beautiful you are, in ripples on the water. This is our home.
-
a river so clean we can swim + eat safely from it
-
love the clay that lines the river. Magical in all its variations. Sometimes pure bentonite like lotion. Sometimes mixed with sand stiff or squishy. I always have to touch it
-
HALLOWEEN 2022 — MY GIRLFRIEND AT THE TIME & I WERE PRETTY SURE WE HAD BEEN CURSED BY A FORMER FRIEND — ON THAT NIGHT WHEN THE VEIL IS THIN, WE WENT TO THE HOLY CROSS LEVEE TO PUT SOME MEMENTOS OF THEIRS IN THE RIVER, IN HOPES THAT WE COULD ALL LET GO OF THE PAINFUL THREAD BINDING US. AFTER WE FINISHED OUR RITUAL, WE LOOKED OUT ACROSS THE INDUSTRIAL CANAL TO SEE A SINGLE SHADOWY FIGURE STANDING AT THE WATER’S EDGE, WATCHING. IDK WHY BUT I’M SURE IT WAS A GHOST.

CITYWIDE

IT WAS MARDI GRAS, OUR FIRST ONE SINCE YOU DIED. THIS YEAR THERE WAS NO ONE TO DRAG US DOWN TO SKULL + BONE IMPOSSIBLY EARLY. WE WERE TIRED AND COULDN’T MOBILIZE AS READILY AS WE’D HAVE LIKED TO. BUT FINALLY WE MADE OUR WAY DOWN THERE PAST NOON, AND WE FELT YOU IN EVERY INCH OF GROUND AS IT RUMBLED IN THE PARADE OF EVERYTHING. THIS WILL MAKE SENSE TO NO ONE, BUT IT DOESN’T NEED TO. WE MISS YOU.
-
This city was my hell, I hated how hard life was, but then my neighbors became my friends, and friends became family. Mardi Gras became my Christmas. I might not be from here but I’ll die here.
